The UAE and Mexico have signed a deal that allows unlimited flights between the two countries and traffic rights on specific intermediate points in Europe.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Mexico City last week saw five ‘freedoms’ granted to each of the designated airlines of both countries.
Ahmed Mohammed Al Haddabi, deputy director general of the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), struck a deal with Gilberto Lopez Meyer, head of Mexico’s General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics.
It specifies unlimited frequencies and routes between the two countries, for both passenger and cargo services. It also allows any types of aircraft to be operated by the countries’ designated airlines.
The agreement includes designations of four UAE national airlines – Emirates, Etihad, Air Arabia and RAK Airways. It also allows for traffic rights on specific intermediate points in Europe.
“The growth and fast expansion of our national carriers necessitate that we open new routes that meet the current and future requirements of our market. That will encourage the tourism sector and investments between the UAE and Latin America,” said Mohammed Ghanem Al Ghaith, director general of the GCAA.
The recent air service agreement follows on the heels of another MoU
signed between the UAE and India
, in which 11 additional flights between the two countries were added to the weekly quotas.
