The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir square is home to the largest collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. It displays 120,000 artefacts, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. The museum was first build in 1835 near the Ezbekeyah Garden and later moved to the Saladin Citadel of Cairo.
