Fikra Labs awards $100,000 to four MENA start ups

Tapklik Technologies and Arabot were among the winners of the acceleration programme

Abu Dhabi-based Fikra Labs Acceleration Programme, which aims to support entrepreneurship in the capital’s travel and tourism sector, announced four winners of its latest program on May 1.

The MENA start-ups included Tapklik Technologies mentored by DCT Abu Dhabi, ViaFone Technologies mentored by ADNEC, Arabot mentored by Etihad Aviation Group and Scene mentored by Miral.

Fikra Labs launched in February and is developed by the Department of Culture and Tourism, Miral, Etihad Aviation Group and Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company. It is also supported by Abu Dhabi Global Market in collaboration with Wamda.

The programme saw the participants work with the Wamda team and industry experts to finalise prototype and presentations, before pitching their ideas to the jury.

“We witnessed a huge leap during the course of the programme in the level of maturity each startup has presented,” said Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and Chairwoman of ADNEC.

Each partner mentored the start ups to address tourism challenges in Abu Dhabi and help establish the emirate as a leading hub for world-class tourism.
