You take risks constantly in your life. You take risks in your career by trying a new cuisine and hairstyle. Taking risks is a part of life. However, where you shouldn’t be taking risks is in your healthcare. Bassem Bibi, a Medical Healthcare Leader, uses his skill with numbers to enhance global healthcare.
Bassem’s healthcare journey is characterized by his commitment to consistency and discipline, which is founded on his cultural heritage and passion for positively impacting the world. Raised in a close-knit family, Bassem was taught early the value of determination and resilience, which contributed greatly to his vast collection of awards and achievements.
While Bassem was starting out in operations and marketing management, a mentor motivated him to launch a career in healthcare, driven by his mentor’s question: “Are you prepared to make a difference and serve society?” With innate skills in sales and a dedication to serving others, Bassem joined Gulf Medical, producing impressive sales targets in Saudi Arabia and earning himself recognition quickly in his career. By 1997, Bassem had become “Champion of the Year – Best Over Budget Total Cumulative Sales in the Kingdom” for the company.
Bassem climbed the ladder of success, becoming the Sales Manager at Guidant Corporation in 2000. While this job move marked the beginning of Bassem’s corporate career, it was here that he was introduced to the complexities of cardiology devices, which included stents, balloons, guidewires, pacemakers, and defibrillators. He expanded his knowledge and expertise with W.L. Gore & Associates, a multi-billion-dollar American multinational materials science company dedicated to transforming industries and improving lives, selling high-quality medical products in vascular and endovascular surgery. Embracing his leadership skills and role as a global citizen, it was during his time here that Bassem increased his influence across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
While at W.L. Gore & Associates, Bassem opened many legal entities for them, earning himself many awards in the process, including the Best Sales Award for EDM in 2010, the Golden Award for ongoing support and services, and in 2008, he was rated the #1 Sales Associate in the EDM-Export team. During his tenure with W.L. Gore, he also won the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia’s Appreciation Award, the Saudi Society of Vascular Surgeons’ Appreciation Award (for founding it), and the Outstanding Team Effort and World Best Sales awards. To Bassem, he’s a builder. He builds futures and generates sales.
Another career move came in 2017 when Bassem became General Manager for Africa with Johnson & Johnson. Bassem worked primarily with the MedTech division, focusing on delivering valuable healthcare products across the continent and emphasizing the need to improve healthcare access to low—and medium-income countries. Bassem received the Managing Director’s Award with Johnson & Johnson in 2016 for “Honesty, Professionalism, Commitment, and Never-Give-Up Attitude.” His active engagement across continents is a core part of Bassem’s identity today, and he is known for creating tangible success stories from positivity.
Since 2019, Bassem has been working with Abbott Laboratories, a diversified global healthcare company specializing in medical devices, diagnostics, nutrition, and pharmaceuticals, as Divisional Vice President for EEMEA and global accounts. In addition, he manages all NGOs while covering all the low and medium-income countries in LATAM, APAC, and EEMEA. In addition, he has opened legal entities for ARDx in South Africa, the UAE, and the EMEA region.
Through his hard work as Division Vice President of EEMEA and global accounts, Bassem has received many awards through his work, including the Inspiring Leader Award for 2023. He also won the EEMEA Recognition Award for successful project completion across the region in 2022 and the EVP (Executive Vice President) Award for outstanding contribution to the base business strategy in 2021.
However, the biggest challenge Bassem faced wasn’t related to business but to the necessity of saving lives. Always passionate about serving others and extending healthcare access to even the most remote areas of any country, Bassem faced the daunting obstacle of providing the highest quality medical products to areas lacking direct air connectivity between cities. With the goal of saving all lives, Bassem would drive for seven to eight hours at a time just to reach out to doctors and healthcare professionals in remote areas, aiming to raise awareness about the availability and benefits of quality medical products that offer better healthcare for their communities. This never-give-up attitude has motivated Bassem to believe that no destination is too far and no community is unreachable to access quality healthcare.
Today, Bassem Bibi envisions himself at the forefront of a company ready to revolutionize life-saving measures by managing its global operations through advanced digitalization. His ambition is to develop products that reach every individual worldwide, protecting them against emerging diseases and saving lives without delay. Bassem believes this goal is not a dream but a foreseeable reality, and he is committed to helping see it realized.
