Saudi Arabia’s labour minister has called on private sector businesses to step up efforts to Saudise the workforce, according to local media.
Mufrej Al Haqabani, labour and social development minister, told a conference last week that collaboration was needed between public and private sector organisations to identify new targets for the government’s Saudisation programme, Arab News reported.
As part of its Vision 2030 economic diversification programme, the kingdom wants to increase the number of Saudi citizens in the workforce, and is calling on the private sector to “do its part” to achieve the objectives.
Al Haqabani was delivering the keynote address at the Eighth Social Dialogue Forum on ‘Professional management in the private sector and its positive impact in the nationalization of jobs’, held at the King Abdul Aziz Center for National Dialogue in Riyadh.
He reportedly told Arab News the event provided a platform for businesses and government to work together to identify recruitment needs, while Al Mansour Al Shathri, deputy chairman of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged the private sector to hire as many Saudi nationals as possible.
