Revealed: Global passport rank 2022. Where does your passport stand?

Passports receive ranking on the basis of on the number of countries that grant visa-free and/or visa-on-arrival access to holders of that passport, the higher the number, the stronger the passport

A passport is ranked based on its mobility score, which is the number of countries that the passport holder can visit visa-free or with visa-on-arrival.

Japan, Korea and Singapore held the top spots, earlier this year. Pre-pandemic, the spots were held by European passports. UAE currently tops the global passport rank.

Here are the current top five passports ranked according to mobility score:

  • United Arab Emirates: Visa-free – 119 countries, Visa-on-arrival – 57 countries, Visa required – 22 countries

11 countries hold the second rank with a mobility score of 173

  • Germany: Visa-free – 127 countries, visa-on-arrival – 46 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Sweden: Visa-free – 126 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Finland: Visa-free – 126 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Luxembourg: Visa-free – 126 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Spain: Visa-free – 126 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • France: Visa-free – 126 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Italy: Visa-free – 126 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Netherlands: Visa-free – 125 countries, visa-on-arrival – 48 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Austria: Visa-free – 125 countries, visa-on-arrival – 48 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • Switzerland: Visa-free – 123 countries, visa-on-arrival – 50 countries, visa required – 25 countries
  • South Korea: Visa-free – 120 countries, visa-on-arrival – 53 countries, visa required – 25 countries

Eight countries hold the third rank with a mobility score of 172

  • Denmark: Visa-free – 125 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 26 countries
  • Belgium: Visa-free – 124 countries, visa-on-arrival – 48 countries, visa required – 26 countries
  • Portugal: Visa-free – 124 countries, visa-on-arrival – 48 countries, visa required – 26 countries
  • Norway: Visa-free – 123 countries, visa-on-arrival – 49 countries, visa required – 26 countries
  • Poland: Visa-free – 122 countries, visa-on-arrival – 50 countries, visa required – 26 countries
  • Ireland: Visa-free – 117 countries, visa-on-arrival – 55 countries, visa required – 26 countries
  • United States of America: Visa-free – 116 countries, visa-on-arrival – 56 countries, visa required – 26 countries
  • New Zealand: Visa-free – 114 countries, visa-on-arrival – 58 countries, visa required – 26 countries

Six countries hold a mobility score of 171, ranking them fourth on the list

  • Czech Republic: Visa-free – 122 countries, visa-on-arrival – 49 countries, visa required – 27 countries
  • Greece: Visa-free – 122 countries, visa-on-arrival – 49 countries, visa required – 27 countries
  • Hungary: Visa-free – 121 countries, visa-on-arrival – 50 countries, visa required – 27 countries
  • Japan: Visa-free – 119 countries, visa-on-arrival – 52 countries, visa required – 27 countries
  • United Kingdom: Visa-free – 118 countries, visa-on-arrival – 53 countries, visa required – 27 countries
  • Australia: Visa-free – 111 countries, visa-on-arrival – 60 countries, visa required – 26 countries

The fifth rank on the list is held by five countries with a mobility score of 170

  • Singapore: Visa-free – 130 countries, visa-on-arrival – 40 countries, visa required – 28 countries
  • Malta: Visa-free – 123 countries, visa-on-arrival – 47 countries, visa required – 28 countries
  • Lithuania: Visa-free – 121 countries, visa-on-arrival – 49 countries, visa required – 28 countries
  • Slovakia: Visa-free – 119 countries, visa-on-arrival – 51 countries, visa required – 28 countries
  • Canada: Visa-free – 115 countries, visa-on-arrival – 55 countries, visa required – 28 countries

The lowest ranks are held by Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Pakistan, Yemen, Palestine and Bangladesh.
