Over 40 percent of Oman’s population is children under the age of 17, according to a recent survey by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Children account for 44 percent of the country’s population, an increase of 16 percent from 1,051,862 to 1,221,751 since 2017.
The highest concentration of children is within the cities of Muscat and Batinah, collectively at 39 percent. Musandam and Wusta have the least number of children (2 percent).
Between 2017 and 2022, over 765,000 children in Oman enrolled into Kindergarten while 733,900 enrolled into the private or government schooling system.
Among the employed youth in the country, 60 percent are employed in the private sector while 40 percent work for the public sector.
Last week, it was reported that the population of Oman has passed 5 million, according to information compiled by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
Since the national census conducted in 2010, the population has experienced a significant growth of over 60 percent.
Of the total population, Omani nationals account for the highest proportion at 57.62 percent, while expat residents constitute the remaining 42.38 percent.
