Lebanese soldiers undergo bank heist training amid rise of theft

A rise in bank theft has been observed recently following frozen accounts amid ongoing financial crisis. Depositors have stormed banks to demand access to funds from accounts that have been frozen.

The Lebanese army have conducted training to prepare for bank theft and hostage situations, the official Twitter account of the Lebanese army posted a video of the training depicting a group of soldiers simulating dealing with a security incident inside a bank and arresting the perpetrators.

The tweet states that the exercise is part of the training concept for SOFEX 2022 operations that are being carried out to seek ways to tackle a range of security threats worldwide. The Special Operations Forces Exhibition is a defence industry event held every two years in Jordan.

Earlier this year, A woman, identified as Sally Hafez, and a group of depositors stormed Blom Bank in central Beirut, on Wednesday, local news reported. Hafez allegedly wanted to recover the money for treatment of her sister, who she claims suffers from cancer.
