Current US President, Joe Biden, has officially announced his bid for re-election on Tuesday. Biden will run for the presidency again next year.
“This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for re-election,” he announced.
The move was speculated, however, only just confirmed in a three-minute video titled ‘Freedom’, released on Tuesday.
“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are,” he said.
Joe Biden is the oldest presidential candidate to assume the position at 78 years old. He will be running for the presidency again next year at age 81.
Donald Trump has already announced his bid for a non-consecutive presidency in 2022.
Earlier this month, Trump was arrested in New York and became the first former US President to face criminal charges.
The former president pleaded not guilty to all 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection to “hush money” paid to an actress in 2016.
Prosecutors said Trump “Repeatedly and fraudulently falsified New York business records to conceal criminal conduct that hid damaging information from the voting public during the 2016 presidential election.
“From August 2015 to December 2017, the Defendant orchestrated a scheme with others to influence the 2016 presidential election by identifying and purchasing negative information about him to suppress its publication and benefit the Defendant’s electoral prospects.
“In order to execute the unlawful scheme, the participants violated election laws and made and caused false entries in the business records of various entities in New York.”
