India has suspended the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens “till further notice,” citing “operational reasons,” according to a report by Hindustan Times, which cited an announcement by BLS International – an online visa application centre.
The abrupt suspension of Indian visa services has raised questions about its connection to the ongoing dispute between India and Canada.
At the heart of the conflict is Ottawa’s assertion of possessing “credible allegations” linking individuals in New Delhi to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan Sikh figure.
The South Asian country has vehemently rejected these allegations, branding them as “absurd” and “motivated.”
Hardeep Singh Nijjar was fatally shot in Vancouver, Canada, in June. The incident has become a focal point of contention, particularly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concerns about Khalistani terrorist activities within Canada during the G20 Summit held in Delhi.
Both nations have been grappling with the escalating tensions surrounding the allegations and counter-allegations, which threaten to strain their diplomatic relations.
On Wednesday, both India and Canada issued travel advisories.
