Maha Khamis Al Mezaina has been appointed as director of Dubai’s Area 2071, part of the emirate’s plans to strengthen its reputation and soft power, building Emirati values and ethics for coming generations, and improving the economy’s productivity.
Al Mezaina will oversee the management and implementation of projects and initiatives of Area 2071, which represents a platform for connecting the best minds around the world and enabling them to work together, state news agency WAM reported.
Al Mezaina has previously worked in many governmental entities including Dubai Future Accelerators, Museum of the Future and Dubai Future Academy. She has also worked in the Prime Minister’s Office in the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future.
Maha holds a Masters degree in innovation, creativity and leadership from City University, London, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the American University of Sharjah, and she is a graduate of the UAE Government Leaders Programme.
Her appointment was announced in a decree issued by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of the UAE Cabinet Affairs and The Future, and managing director of Dubai Future Foundation.
Area 2071 plans to “act as an umbrella” to bring together entrepreneurs, start-ups, small and medium-sized businesses, and government programmes such as Dubai’s Future Accelerators.
It will see think tanks and labs tackling challenges in various development sectors to accelerate their progress, and to provide a pioneering model for tackling these challenges for both the region and the world.
The zone, located at Emirates Towers in Dubai, is designed to serve as the headquarters of global smart companies, services and labs, and will work to create innovative solutions and tools, in accordance with future requirements and technologies.
Area 2071 is named after the UAE’s Centennial Vision 2071 – the government’s long term plan that marks the 100 years since the establishment of the UAE.
Area 2071 was launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as one of the key pillars of achieving the goals of UAE Centennial 2071.
