UAE President announces $435.5m in bonuses for govt employees

The bonuses will be distributed to mark the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Sheikh Zayed in 1918

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered that all government employees in the UAE receive a bonus of one month’s salary to celebrate the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on May 6.

According to the government, a total of AED 1.6 billion ($435.5m) will be disbursed before Eid Al Fitr.

The bonus applies to all serving and retired government employees, both civilians and those serving in the UAE’s military, as well as the beneficiaries of social welfare services. It will be a basic monthly salary for employees up to a maximum of AED50,000 for every beneficiary and a minimum of AED5,000.

For retirees, the limit will be AED50,000 and the minimum will be AED10,000.

“Zayed was the source of giving and generosity during life, and he is also our stimulus to follow his legacy after his death,” Sheikh Khalifa said.

“Today, 100 years have passed since his birth and the UAE will remain strong, loyal and pioneer thanks to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.”
