What would you regret if death were imminent?

As an entrepreneur, it’s vital I juggle multiple roles and strive to give them my all. Yet, the fact remains that life does not always unfold according to our expectations or plans

Regret is a negative feeling that happens when a person believes that if his or her past acts or behaviours had been different, the outcome would have been better.

Regret is frequently linked to feelings of guilt and shame. I’ve always been aware of regret, because I feel that life is a gift that we must fully experience on our terms and beliefs. However, as an entrepreneur, it is even more vital because I juggle multiple roles and strive to give them my all.

Yet, the fact remains that life does not always unfold according to our expectations or plans. There are obstacles that dash our dreams. What we need to learn is that challenges are part of everyone’s journey and we must use them to make us stronger and better rather than make us give up.

There was a point in my life where I did give up on my life as nothing in my life was as per my expectations, and I didn’t want to live. I was waiting to be reborn into a new life at a new time to live the life of my dream, I didn’t know it was possible to live a new life in the same life. I was not aware; I only became aware when I started connecting to myself and going inwards to know and love myself for who I was.

By the end of this article I want you to understand and become aware of anything that is missing in your life, so you can create a plan to work towards achieving that and live a life with no regrets.

4 things that help me come alive and live a life of no regret are

  1. Loving myself for who I am – I connected to myself, to understand myself, and know myself to become powerful so I could live a life of fulfilment. You can achieve this through a daily ritual of Meditation or meaningful silence, exercise, reading, or learning something new. The more connected you are with yourself the more you will love yourself.
  2. Keeping my heart open – Our heart has the ability to open and close itself, when we feel fear, stress, or any negative emotion then our heart closes, not allowing energy to flow and that’s when we have disturbance, depression, anxiety, lethargy, and similar feelings. What we must do is learn to keep our heart open and practice it consistently.
  3. Discovering my purpose and living for it – This is a journey to get to but as long as you want it you will be able to find it. I thought I would live a purposeless life but when I started working on evolving myself with dedication and commitment, my purpose emerged too.
  4. Reprogram limiting beliefs – research says that reprogramming limiting beliefs is a common reason for regret in people. Many do not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to themselves, that they were content deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again and live a life they wanted to live. When you identify and reprogram your subconscious beliefs, you will be able to live freely.

To be happy and fulfilled, you can begin by analysing your life on a regular basis. I frequently ask myself 5 questions during my meditation to stay aligned with my inner self and live a life without regret.

1. Am I doing what I would do if it was my last day?

2. Am I being my best version on all fronts of life?

3. Am I expressing love to people who matter to me?

4. Am I living my purpose and mission?

Most importantly I ask-

5. Am I enjoying the journey of life?

Finally, don’t let regret be a part of your future journey. Love yourself and live each day as if it were your last. Use the methods listed above to get closer to the life you desire. This life is a celebration and each day can be filled with happiness, love, and contentment. And remember you have the power to do so.
