American pop singer Taylor Swift is now officially a billionaire, with Forbes estimating her current fortune at $1.1 billion.
The 34-year-old is the first musician to reach billionaire status purely based on her songs and performances, according to Forbes.
In addition to her extensive songwriting catalogue, Swift has also orchestrated the first billion-dollar tour in history, with her ongoing Eras Tour reportedly not only stimulating economies but also bringing joy to fans across.
Forbes said while other industry heavyweights like Rihanna and Jay-Z have amassed substantial wealth through various ventures such as fashion brands, alcohol companies, and entertainment holdings, Swift’s wealth is primarily attributed to her music career.
Swift also possesses a notable real estate portfolio, including residences in New York, Beverly Hills, Nashville, and a coastal mansion in Rhode Island.
The pop sensation, who made headlines at this year’s Grammy Awards by becoming the first performer to win the Album of the Year four times, earned a spot on the rich list after attaining megastar status.
Born on December 13, 1989, in Pennsylvania, Swift’s journey in the music industry began as a teenager when she signed with Nashville’s Big Machine Records as a country artist.
Over the years, she transitioned to pop music, leading to a highly publicised feud with her former label regarding the rights to her song catalogue.
The dispute marked a turning point in her career, leading her to re-record her first six albums to regain control of her music.
Meanwhile, Forbes has listed a record of 2,781 billionaires for 2024.
Besides Swift, Sam Altman, creator of AI chatbot ChatGPT, has also entered the 10-figure status for the first time this year.
