Jayant Ganwani

Company: Lal’s Group

Designation: CEO

Jayant Ganwani could have done a worse job in managing his father’s retail empire, which he started with a single Choithrams supermarket shop in Ajman in 1979 before branching out on his own. Today, the group has operations in food products, home essentials, fashion and malls, including Dubai’s Lamcy Plaza and Arabian Centre as well as retail brands Homes r Us, G2000, Bossini and health club Fitness 360.

The group recently launched two new stores in Qatar and the UAE despite reporting a slow 2016. “It’s safe to say that retailers should not expect any miracles in 2016,” Ganwani told Arabian Business.

Fortunately for him, he has diversified into another field: real estate. Ganwani and friend Raju Shroff co-established Signature Developers. Its first venture involved a $3.3m residential tower in Downtown Dubai designed with one apartment per floor. It has also brought the Vivanta by Taj hotel brand to the UAE. The 207-key hotel will be housed in a 45-storey tower in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, as well as 80 luxury residences. The project is due to be completed in 2018.
