Raghuvinder Kataria

Company: Kataria Holdings

Designation: Chairman

Raghuvinder Kataria likes to keep a low profile, personally and in business. But some of his deals have been so spectacularly successful they speak for themselves.

Take the now famous purchase of two commercial buildings in Emaar Square, Dubai, for $205m in 2009. They are now estimated to be worth at least 50 percent more and one of them, building five, houses HSBC.

Or the succession of moves that led him to Bharti Airtel, which is now the top telco in India and the third-largest in-country mobile operator globally. Kataria merged his telco, JT Telecom, with Bharti Enterprises after creating a joint venture early in his career.

In 2015 he bought Scottish Widows headquarters and Standard Life House, for a combined $504m. Those acquisitions will no doubt return equally stunning results.

Kataria’s investments are handled via Kataria Holdings, which now has a global reach spanning the UAE, India, the US, Denmark, Germany, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The company focuses investments on infrastructure-related projects such as steel plants, iron and other base metal-related businesses as well as education, financial services and real estate in the Middle East and Indian subcontinent.
