Ziad Manasir is the chairman of JomoGroup in Jordan. Comprising 10 businesses and originally known as Jordan Modern Group, the group covers a vast variety of interests from water to telecommunications to fertilisers and food. Established in 1999 with just 15 employees working in the chemical and fertiliser sectors, JomoGroup has grown into a multi-faceted company. The companies include JomoFOOD, JomoCHEM, JomoHydra, JomoTEL, JomoGAS, JomoTrade, JomoSCRAP, JomoBAG and JomoSTORE.

JomoFood’s vision is to take Jordanian food products to a global market. With an initial investment of US$2.1m, JomoFOOD was formed to help develop the country’s food sector, with olive oil being its first line of production. JomoFOOD now operates and supplies countries including the Far East, Europe, North America, Arab Gulf countries and Russia. The company has erected an olive oil complex covering 7000 sq m.

JomoTEL is a licensed prepaid operator as well as internet service provider in Jordan. The company officially launched its services in October 2002 with its first prepaid calling card. It has since launched its prepaid internet card and is the only operator in Jordan to provide internet access services in a single billing mechanism whereby both internet access and telephone dial are charged together to a prepaid account. It is the company’s vision is to become a leading provider of IT and telecom services in Jordan.

JomoGAS, a subsidiary of the group recently signed a deal with Jordan McDonalds to open a new branch of the fast food chain on the premises of its gas station on the Queen Alia Airport Road. JomoGAS is planning to invest a total of US$169.4m in constructing 50 state-of-the-art fuel stations over the next five years in key areas across Jordan.
