Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) is the second-largest utility company in the MENA region. The firm posted a 4.4 percent drop in second-quarter profit to $115m, slightly below analysts’ expectations. QEWC is currently developing new infrastructure in the country to meet rising demand, including a 36 MIGD (million imperial gallons per day) water plant that is set to deliver its first water in June next year. In July, the company also announced that it would build a plant with installed capacity of 2,400 MW and 130 million gallons of desalinated water a day. The new plant will be based in Umm Al Haul.
