The proud young CEO of Omniyat Holdings and Omniyat Properties had a good year. At just 30, Mehdi Amjad oversees a real estate portfolio of around US$3bn with plans to double that in 2008. He oversees more than 500 staff and a property portfolio that includes The Pad, a US$159m tower that looks uncannily like an iPod and is similarly technologically advanced.
Starting out as an entrepreneur, Amjad founded his own computer business back in 1995. Little did he expect, however, that Al Masa Computers will grow into the largest IT distributor in the region, with a turnover of around US$450m.
A decade later, Amjad took to building futuristic skyscrapers with world-renowned architects such as Zaha Hadid designing his projects.
This year, Amjad’s already unveiled The Octavian project and is set for a total of eight new launches this year. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Amjad is excited.
“This has always been my passion. I am an entrepreneur by nature. I started out as an entrepreneur and then supported that with an organised, structured and institutional approach to lead the business forward,” he says.
As his real estate and IT companies continue to expand, Amjad is set to achieve his target of US$6bn worth of projects by the end of this year.
