Tarek Sultan

Company: Agility - Kuwait

Designation: Chairman and managing director

Tareq Sultan is the chairman and managing director of the Agility logistics company. Formerly known as Public Warehousing Company (PWC), Agility was established in Kuwait in May 1979. With more than 20,000 employees, 450 offices in 100 countries worldwide Agility has an annual revenue of $6bn. Its core activities are in warehousing, transportation and freight management services.

Since it started working under a subsistence prime vendor (SPV) contract in 2003 the company has been providing food to those serving in Iraq and Kuwait. Last year, 46 DGS staff suffered injury and six died as a result of attacks in Iraq, including from improvised explosive devices and insurgent assaults. Those numbers have dropped significantly this year, according to the company.

Agility , the Middle East’s largest logistics company by market value, won a US defence contract worth up to $140m in August this year. It has also been expanding its international operations, partnering with Abu Dhabi’s Borouge to build a compound-manufacturing unit and logistics hub in Shanghai.

In November, Agility posted a 15 percent rise in third-quarter profit, beating analysts forecasts, a good sign that the logistics provider could be recovering from the global economic downturn.
