Thapar’s CV reads like dream – head of Corporate Banking at Standard Chartered bank from 1992 to 2000, to CEO of ANZ Bank Middle East today, via a CEO position for fifteen months at the Galadari Group. The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited ( ANZ), is the fourth largest bank in Australia and the biggest in New Zealand. ANZ recently posted a 37 percent jump in quarterly profit that put it on track for record annual earnings. Australian banks have emerged from the global financial crisis stronger than their peers overseas but face a challenge to grow profits in a climate of weak loan demand and falling fees.
