The Dubai-based Indian billionaire is the chairman of the retail jewellery group, but is also known for his philanthropy, having helped free thousands of people behind bars in the UAE by paying off their debts.
He started buying and selling gold bars in Dubai in the 1980s before founding Pure Gold Jewellers in 1989. The company now has 125 stores in the Middle East and Asia, with 200 more stores planned worldwide.
