Alexanria-born Shafik has served as the director of LSE since September 2017, having previously served as the deputy governor of the Bank of England.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, LSE and Oxford, Shafik also served as permanent secretary of the Department for International Development between 2008 and 2011 and as deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund between 2011 and 2014.
