While Labaki’s career began humbly with an appearance on Studio El Fan, where she was awarded for directing a number of music videos, she has since won critical acclaim throughout the region for her feature length films, as well as music videos for the likes of Arab musical icon Nancy Ajram.
Her latest film, Capernaum, was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where it won a Jury Prize and received a standing ovation in May.
