Simon Moon

Company: Atkins

Designation: Chief executive officer, Middle East

Simon Moon was appointed to the helm of Atkins in the Middle East in late 2013 following two years in the region as chief operating officer. The firm remains one of the best-known and established building consultancies in the region. At the Construction Week GCC awards last December, the firm was crowned Consultant of the Year.

One of Atkins’ biggest projects is on package three of the Riyadh Metro. It is working in a $120mn design joint venture with Spanish consultancy Typsa as part of the FAST consortium on three of the six lines. In addition, in the last year Atkins has secured key design packages on Doha Metro and light rail projects in Qatar and the UAE. In the property sector, it is working on projects such as Prince Sultan Cultural Centre in Jeddah and Al Habtoor City in Dubai. Recently it was appointed supervisor for the infrastructure works at the $600m Saraya Bandar Jissah project in Muscat.

“For me, this is undoubtedly the world’s most exciting and invigorating region to work in, with ambitious, visionary clients, great projects and fantastically talented people,” Moon told CW.

“That all adds up to optimism and confidence for the future.”
