The UAE national ice hockey team has topped the Division III Group A stage at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, defeating Luxembourg – the hosts of the tournament – by a margin of 8 goals to 1.

The UAE team won four games on the trot, claiming the full 12 points possible from Group A during the round robin stages of the ice hockey tournament.

The UAE team’s Zakharau Maksim, Chuikov Ilia, and Al Dhaheri Juma claimed the top three spots on the scoring chart at the end of the group stage, which included games against the national teams of Luxembourg, Turkey, and Turkmenistan.

The vice president of the UAE Winter Sports Federation, Hamel Al Qubaisi, dedicated the landmark victory to the UAE leadership, which he said had provided all support and assistance to the sport in the country.

“This sports achievement is a culmination of well-planned strategy and accumulative work by the federation to win international championships,” he said.

Juma Al Dhaheri, the captain of UAE Ice Hockey Team, said that the victory is a result of tireless work for more than 10 years to assemble a strong, competitive team.
