Cristiano Ronaldo, who represented Portugal during the Qatar World Cup, has broken his silence on the team’s exit, saying “the dream ended”.

The 37-year-old football icon, often known as CR7, called winning a World Cup for Portugal one of his “biggest and most ambitious dream” of his career.

He added: “I just want you all to know that much has been said, much has been written, much has been speculated, but my dedication to Portugal has not changed not for a moment. I was always one fighting for the objective of all and I would never turn my back on my colleagues and my country. Not much more to say for now. Thank you Portugal. Thank you Qatar The dream was nice while it lasted.”

On Saturday, Morocco stunned the football world with dramatic victory 1-0 over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal to reach semi-finals of World Cup in Qatar.

It is the first time an African side has reached the last four of the FIFA World Cup.

In addition, this has been a historic World Cup for the Arab world. With Qatar hosting, Saudi Arabia defeating Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Morocco’s heroics it has seen celebration, unity, delight and passionate support.

Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum congratulated Morocco on the stunning win as soon as the match finished.

Taking to Twitter he said the win “created joy and made your fans happy in every Arab house and around the world”.

“Today, with your aspiration, the dream of recording an exceptional Arab achievement on the land of the sisterly State of Qatar is growing,” he added.
