Alcohol still available for fans in stadium hospitality boxes in Qatar

Alcohol will still be available to spectators in World Cup hospitality boxes in stadiums in Qatar despite a ban on sales elsewhere in the stadium.

According to reports in Hotelier Middle East alcohol will still be available to those with Match Hospitality.

Fans who booked tickets though Match Hospitality will still be served beer and other alcohol in their exclusive hospitality boxes, Hotelier Middle East reports.

Fans can enter VIP lounges up to three hours before the match.

Match Hospitality says the alcohol U-turn will not have any impact on those within ‘hospitality spaces’.

World Cup beer ban

VIP packages offered by Match Hospitality start at $950 for a two-star offering and range up to $4,950 per person for what it advertises as the five-star Pearl Lounge offering in the early rounds of the tournament.

Pearl Lounge access through Match Hospitality costs up to $34,300 for the later stages of the torunament.

Pearl Lounge hospitality advertised by FIFA is in private boxes away from the stands and offer VIP access. Promising the best views and six-course à la carte dining they are VIP offerings different to standard fan access.

The decision to not sell alcohol inside general access areas of stadiums is not uncommon.

Top tier football in Spain, France and Scotland comes with a no alcohol inside the stadium rule.

In an official statement regarding beer sales at Qatar World Cup Qatar, FIFA said that the sale of alcoholic beverages will only be take place at designated areas.

“Following discussions between host country authorities and FIFA, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar’s FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters,” FIFA said on Friday.

“Host country authorities and FIFA will continue to ensure that the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful and pleasant experience for all fans. The tournament organisers appreciate AB InBev’s understanding and continuous support to our joint commitment to cater for everyone during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” FIFA said.
