Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr played out a disappointing 1-1 draw against Al Khaleej in Saudi Arabia.

A crowd of almost 17,000 watched Al Nassr toil at the Al Awwal stadium, but to no avail.

Al Khaleej started the day just above the relegation zone, and 14 places behind the much-fancied Al Nassr. Despite their seeming advantage, and the presence of the world’s best-paid sport star, the game ended with a draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo goalless

Although Al Nassr dominated possession and registered twice as many shots as their opponents, they could not make the advantage count.

In fact, it was Al Nassr who went behind after just four minutes when Al Khaleej’s own Portuguese star Fábio Martins slotted home a breakaway goal.

Al Nassr import Álvaro González, of Spain, levelled for the home side on 17 minutes with his first goal in Saudi football.

Ronaldo had the ball in the back of the net at the start of the second half, but his well-taken effort was ruled out for an offside offence.

As has often been the case in the Saudi Pro League this year, the referee added what appeared to be an excessive amount of extra time, with a further nine minutes being played after the 90. But neither Ronaldo or his teammates could conjure up a winner, and the game ended with disappointment.

The result leaves Al Nassr in second place in the table, two points behind Al Ittihad despite having played a game more.

The next fixture for Al Nassr will be against Al Ta’ee on Tuesday, September 16.
