Situated by the Palm Jumeirah shoreline in Miami-style hotel Five, Portuguese restaurant Praia is a fresh concept in an ever flooded dining market.
Emanating a laid-back vibe, it offers visitors a distinct menu influenced partly by Japanese cuisine, allowing them to enjoy high end service in an otherwise casual setting.
The outdoor restaurant comprises two distinct areas featuring contemporary marble flooring with white and colourful furnishing.
One is a modern restaurant while the other is an elevated theatre-style lounge, both overlooking Dubai skyline views.
Visiting the venue for dinner, we started with savoury truffle zucchini spaghetti topped with rich ricotta and flavourful smoked duck (AED65); a light but very satisfying evening dish.
Craving to try a dish with Japanese influence, we chose a rather large portion of crispy tempura including prawns, asparagus, sweet potato and oyster mushrooms (AED55); simple and minimal yet crunchy and fulfilling. We recommend it is shared between two.
Leaving just enough room for dessert, we had the scrumptious crème soufflé (AED50) with a twist. Made with subtle fillings of raspberry and pistachio puree paired with sides of crushed merengue, it was a pleasant blend of sweet and sour.
While the menu at Praia does not offer a wide selection of food, we found the choices (albeit limited) innovative and new.
The staff are quick to guide you through much-loved dishes prepared as quickly as expected at a Five restaurant, one of our favourite spots for dining in Dubai.
Praia is open for lunch from 12:30pm to 6pm and for dinner from 6:30pm to 2am, leaving plenty of time for a late night friendly gathering.
For a more romantic set up, we recommend the hotel’s rooftop lounge Penthouse.
Shisha can also be enjoyed at both venues.
