DJ Khaled is set to appear at Saudi Arabia’s MDLBEAST festival in December, Arabian Business understands.
The superstar DJ and record producer, with over 30 million followers on Instagram, is being lined up as the headline act for Soundstorm, which takes place in Riyadh between December 1 and December 3.
The event will feature over 150 international music and dance acts appearing alongside local and regional talent. Earlier this week, the organisers unveiled a host of big names already secured for the event, including Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, Deadmau5, DJ Snake, Eric Prydz, Martin Garrix, Paul Kalkbrenner, Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens, Carl Cox, Charlotte de Witte, Jeff Mills, Nina Kraviz, and Sven Vath.
Talal Albahiti, MDLBEAST’s chief operating officer and head of talent booking, told Arab News: “We’re happy with the first announcement of the SOUNDSTORM 2021 lineup. We will soon announce a second phase which includes a wide variety of musical genres that will take attendees on a journey they won’t forget.”
However, any appearance by DJ Khaled, who has Palestinian roots, would be a huge coup for the organisers. The first event In 2019 saw over 400,000 attendees attend.
Saudi Arabia’s music scene has witnessed tremendous growth over the last five years, and is a key focus of the creative strategy inbuilt in the kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan.
The strategy director for MDLBEAST Nada Alhelabi previously told Arabian Business that, “Talents need to be able to express their art through music. It can only really exist if there is a scene in their city. By that we mean venues and promoters who put on regular events which attract crowds and artists.”
