Eminem turned down an $8m offer to perform at the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar says rapper and long-time collaborator 50 Cent.
Music artist-turned entrepreneur 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, says a $9m collaboration would have seen him pocket $1m with the rest going to Eminem.
Eminem, however, was not interested in the offer and rejected it out of hand claimed 50 Cent on the syndicated US radio show, Big Boys Neighbourhood.
Eminem Qatar gig offer
The offer came about after event organisers in Qatar were hoping to hire the hip hop duo following a critically acclaimed performance at the Superbowl half-time show.
“Because of the Super Bowl, I got an inquiry about World Cup and they had a budget of $9m,” said 50 Cent.
He went on to claim he “would’ve taken” $1m and the other $8m “would have been for” Eminem.
50 Cent said, “If you would do a one-off show, maybe you would do the biggest live sporting event in the world.”
Despite Eminem’s initial reluctance to perform, 50 Cent tried to negotiate with Eminem’s management and entourage. He was not successful, saying: “They’re like, ‘He’s not gonna do it’.”
It is not known whether the alleged performance would have been a part of the Qatar World Cup opening ceremony or an additional concert in Doha.
