Dubai Opera, a prominent center for performing arts and culture in the UAE, has announced a new collaboration with the iconic Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
The Teatro alla Scala Orchestra is set to perform for the first time in the Gulf region at an illustrious gala concert in the UAE, presented by the Dubai Opera.
The distinguished Milanese maestro, Michele Gamba, will lead the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra in this historic performance, featuring globally acclaimed soprano Aida Garifullina and esteemed Italian tenor Piero Pretti.
The repertoire for the evening will showcase renowned compositions from Italian opera luminaries Verdi, Puccini, and Mascagni.
Dubai Opera: A Cultural Shining Star
“Dubai Opera has not only asserted itself as a cultural beacon within the Gulf region but has also emerged as a shining star in the Middle Eastern arts landscape,” Paolo Petrocelli, Head of Dubai Opera said.
The concert holds significant institutional and cultural importance, coinciding with the United Nations Climate Change conference in Dubai.
“We look forward to presenting masterpieces by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, whose centenary commemorations are on the horizon. The Teatro alla Scala Orchestra shall render their works with unmistakable resonance and fervour,” Dominique Meyer, Superintendent of the Teatro alla Scala Foundation said.
The collaboration reinforces cultural and amicable bonds between Italy, Dubai, and the Emirates, as Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani said, adding: “This is just one example of the vitality of our bilateral relations, which we want to further strengthen in every area.”
The La Scala Gala in Dubai aligns with the COP28 global climate change conference, emphasizing the role of art and culture in raising awareness of pressing environmental concerns.
“With the world facing one of the key challenges of our time, Italy is happy to put its cultural excellence at the service of dialogue between nations,” Gennaro Sangiuliano, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Italy said.
