Dubai Opera is hosting three special screenings of the American psychological thriller Joker.
Directed by Todd Phillips, audiences will be left on the edge of their seat at the stunning Dubai venue as failed comedian Arthur Fleck, played by Joaqiun Phoenix, encounters violent thugs while wandering the streets of Gotham City dressed as a clown.
In what has been widely tipped to be one of the biggest films of the year, Joker premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in August where it received a standing ovation and the coveted Golden Lion award.
On Thursday (8pm) and Friday (3pm and 7pm) this week, watch Fleck’s slow dissent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.
A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
