The event, taking place at the King Abdullah Sports stadium in the Red Sea city, had been announced as being broadcast globally and covered by MTV.

MTV, however, has denied the claim.

“MTV is not and was never broadcasting or participating in the Jeddah World Festival,” a spokeswoman said.

The event’s main headline act Nicki Minaj cancelled her planned performance for “personal reasons”, according to organisers.

Other performers announced so far include British singer Liam Payne, American musician Steve Aoki and CLUB MTV Ambassadors R3WIRE and VARSKI.
