The UAE has seen “outstanding” results in its drive for Emiratisation in the first quarter of 2023, reported the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The number of Emiratis working in the private sector increased by more than 11 per cent in the first three months of the year, the MOHRE said.
At the same time the number of firms hiring Emiratis increased by more than 13 per cent.
UAE Emiratisation success
A post by the MOHRE on social media said: “The first quarter of 2023 compared to 2022 figures shows outstanding results in Emiratisation, as the number of Emiratis working in the private sector increased by more than 11%, MOHRE revealed today”
Construction saw the biggest change, with 14 per cent growth in the number of Emiratis employed in the sector.
The top five economic sectors where Emiratis worked in Q1, compared to the same time last year were:
- Construction, with 14 per cent growth
- Commerce and repair services, with 13 per cent growth
- Business services, with 10 per cent growth
- Manufacturing, with 10 per cent growth
- Financial brokerage, with 4 per cent growth
The MOHRE quarterly update also identified that more than 5,000 UAE nationals benefitted from career counselling in the first three months of this year.
By the end of 2022 UAE firms were instructed to make sure a minimum of 2% of employees were UAE nationals.
This figure must increase by a further two per cent every year until reaching 10 per cent in 2026.
Firms that fail to meet the targets will be fined at a rate of AED6,000 a month or AED72,000 a year. The fine will be paid in a single instalment.
The value of the monthly fines imposed on private sector entities will increase progressively at a rate of AED1,000 annually until the year 2026.
