Oman announces reduced work hours for Ramadan 2023

Timings have reduced to six hours per day for private sector employees in Oman during Ramadan

Oman

The Oman Ministry of Labour (MoL) has announced the official working hours for employees in the public and private sector during the Holy month of Ramadan.

According to the announcement made by the Oman News Agency (ONA) on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, public sector employees will have flexible working hours.

Flexible working hours in Oman during Ramadan

The official working hours for civil state units will be from 9AM to 2PM. However, the head of the unit may determine the hours of attendance and departure that suit the work of the unit based on a scheduled working hour scheme.

The flexible hours are as follows:

  • From 7AM to 12PM
  • From 8AM to 1PM
  • From 9AM to 2PM
  • From 10AM to 3PM

Remote work

The Ministry of Labour has also directed that remote work be implemented for employees whose job nature allows for it, without affecting the workflow in the unit.

However, the number of employees required to attend physically should not be reduced.

Private sector work hours for Ramadan in Oman

As for private sector establishments, the working hours for Muslim workers will be reduced to six hours per day, with no more than 30 hours per week.

This is in line with MoL’s commitment to protect workers’ rights and ensure that they have sufficient time for worship and other religious activities during the holy month.

Ramadan is a significant month for Muslims from the world over, during which they observe fasting from dawn to dusk, engage in religious activities, and spend more time with their families.
