Are you planning to travel abroad over the Eid holidays? The Dubai International Airport has geared up to welcome a surge of passengers as residents fly out of the UAE at the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The week-long Eid al-Fitr holidays, starting this weekend, is expected to witness approximately 1.9 million travellers pass through DXB between April 29 and May 9, with average daily traffic exceeding 177,000 passengers.
Dubai Airports has stated that it will continue to work with international and regional airlines, control authorities, and commercial and service partners to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience for all customers.
As you plan your travel, here are a few hacks that could make your journey smoother at the Dubai International Airport:
- Do you need to travel through DXB?
Remember, some flights have moved to the Dubai World Centre due to the temporary closure of the DXB’s northern runway. flydubai, SpiceJet, Indigo, and Gulf Air flights are among those that have moved to the Dubai World Central airport during the 45-day closure - May 7 is expected to be the busiest day with passenger numbers surpassing the 200,000 mark.
- The roads to the airport could get busy during peak times. It’s best to plan some extra time to get to and through the airport. Book your taxi pick-ups and drop-offs in advance to avoid the stress of being unable to find one at the last minute.
- If you are flying out of Terminal 1, arrive at the airport three hours before your departure. Check in online to save time.
- Those travelling from Terminal 3 can use the early check-in and self-service check-in facilities. Remember to cross-check the baggage allowance on your individual flights.
- Travellers over the age of 12 can use Smart Gates to speed up the passport control process.
- Emirates airlines has stated that gates will open 90 minutes before departure, boarding starts 45 minutes before the flight, and gates close 20 minutes before departure. Emirates will not accept passengers reporting late to the boarding gate for travel.
- Passengers must remain aware of the latest travel regulations for the destination you are travelling to.
Passengers must get in touch with their respective airlines and ensure that they have all the necessary documents with the required validity before reaching the airport. - Passengers are required to make sure that they are up to date with the regulations from the IATA Travel Centre and the IATA destination tracker for their whole journey, flydubai has added.
- Passengers must also follow the guidance issued by government authorities and airlines. They can visit the UAE information hub for international travellers for more information.
