Revealed: India travellers face new regulations on arrival

The relaxation of Covid-19 requirements come after two years after the onset of the pandemic

As the number of Covid-19 cases continues to decline, India has announced that international passengers will not have to fill out the Air Suvidha form prior to their arrival.

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation discontinued the requirement in the revised guidelines for international arrivals, which comes into effect from Tuesday.

The Air Suvidha is a self-declaration to be mandatorily filled by all passengers traveling to India with details of current health status, recent travel, contact details and vaccination status.

A notice from the Civil Aviation ministry said: “In the light of sustained declining Covid-19 trajectory and significant advances being made in Covid-19 vaccination coverage both globally as well as in India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has issued revised ‘Guidelines for International Arrivals’.

The new union ministry of health guidelines urged that all travellers should preferably (not mandatory) be fully vaccinated as per the approved primary schedule of vaccination against Covid-19 in their country.

All travellers have been asked to self-monitor their health post-arrival

It said that any passenger having Covid-19 symptoms during travel shall be isolated as per standard protocol. The passenger should be wearing a mask, isolated and segregated from other passengers in flight/travel and shifted to an isolated facility subsequently for follow-up treatment.

The ministry said thermal screening shall continue and should be done for all passengers by the health officials present at the point of entry. Any passengers found to be symptomatic during screening shall be immediately isolated, taken to a designated medical facility as per health protocol.

All travellers have been asked to self-monitor their health post-arrival and report to the nearest health facility or call the national helpline number (1075) in case of any emergency.

Last week, the aviation ministry said the use of masks was no longer compulsory during air travel, but passengers should use them to be on the safer side.
