Dubai announces opening of massive new hiking trail

The new Dubai hiking trail will open on June 20

Dubai Municipality will open a new mountain hiking trail at Mushrif National Park.

This allows hikers to take advantage of a 10-kilometre (approximately) trail, which is the first of its kind in Dubai. The trail will consist of multiple tracks suitable for both beginners and professionals.

Scheduled to open on June 20, the trail features an 8.3-kilometre yellow recreational track and a 1.4-kilometre orange sports track, providing options for hikers of varying skill levels.

“It’s the first of its kind in Dubai and offers various pathways tailored for both novice and experienced mountain climbers, delivering a one-of-a-kind adventure experience,” Dubai Municipality said on Twitter.

The move is part of the municipality’s efforts to enhance the appeal and quality of life in Dubai by developing recreational facilities and parks, and the addition of this hiking trail is a testament to that commitment.

Ahmed Al Zarooni, the director of the municipality’s Public Parks and Recreational Facilities Department said “the track in the Mushrif National Park’s forests offers a distinctive opportunity for individuals who are fond of walking, climbing, and adventure to explore and enjoy various unique facilities.”

New Dubai hiking trail built with amenities

To ensure the safety and comfort of hikers, the municipality has incorporated amenities and services throughout the park.

Amenities include public restrooms, safety instructions, warning signage boards with directions, and the presence of administrative and supervisory employees stationed at various locations along the trail.

Visitors and hikers can access the trail for free all year round, immersing themselves in the natural beauty of Mushrif Park.

The trail features sculptures, wooden stairways, bridges, slopes, and rest areas, providing panoramic views of the landscape and wildlife.

Hikers must maintain these safety guidelines

To maintain a safe environment, the municipality has established guidelines for hikers. These include carrying sufficient drinking water, wearing appropriate clothing and footwear, and being equipped with the necessary safety tools.

Additionally, children between the ages of 12 and 15 can use the tracks if accompanied by an adult.

Hikers are also urged to follow trail etiquette, including giving way to cyclists, walking in the designated direction, and adhering to the designated track.

The municipality stressed on the importance of not engaging in activities such as cooking, smoking, camping, or staying overnight in the forest after completing the hike.

Dubai Municipality has previously developed mountain bike tracks in Mushrif National Park, including a 50-kilometer professionals’ track.

These tracks cater to bikers of all skill levels, with designated areas for beginners, intermediates, and professional mountain bikers.
