China has announced plans to relax visa requirements in order to facilitate easier travel for foreigners seeking to engage in business, education, and tourism, Bloomberg reported.
The move is part of the government’s efforts to revive the country’s slowing economy and attract more international visitors.
The National Immigration Administration has outlined five key steps aimed at streamlining the visa application process and facilitating smoother entry into the country.
According to China’s state broadcaster, these measures include allowing foreigners to apply for re-entry visas and simplifying the overall visa application procedure.
Additionally, individuals who have an urgent need to enter the country for work or other reasons will be able to apply for port visas or visas on arrival.
These new measures are part of a broader strategy by China to entice foreign travelers since it reopened its borders at the beginning of 2023, following the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions.
Simplified travel in China
In the past year, China has granted visa-free entry to citizens of more countries and has actively expanded direct flight connections to overseas destinations.
Among the other measures introduced by the country to facilitate smoother travel are allowing travelers to apply for visa extensions or replacements at the nearest police station.
Moreover, individuals transiting through Beijing and other international airports will be exempt from border inspections if their transit period is within 24 hours.
