Brad Pitt to design landmark Dubai hotel

Hollywood heartthrob turned architect part of team designing environmentally friendly hotel and resort.

Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt is to design a landmark environmentally friendly hotel and leisure project in Dubai, developer Zabeel Properties announced on Monday.

Zabeel said Pitt, along with the rest of the team at LA-based architecture firm Graft, have been appointed design consultants for the project, which will include an 800-room five-star hotel.

Pitt said the project would underpin his values for environmentally-friendly architecture and embrace his career in entertainment.

The hotel will eventually play host to the “most glamorous events and award ceremonies”, according to Zabeel.

“Whilst acting is my career, architecture is my passion. Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision,” Pitt said in a statement.

“We will be unveiling precise plans in the next few months, but you can expect something that is not only stunning to look at, but will also be an incredible attraction to visit or stay at.”

The location of the project will be unveiled in the “near future”, Zabeel said.

Zabeel Investments Executive Chairman Mohammed Ali Al-Hashimi said the collaboration with Pitt and Graft was part of a long-term partnership that would include similar projects in other major global cities.

Zabeel’s other projects include the 2.1 billion-dirham ($571.7 million) Tiara Residence & Tiara Hotel on the Palm Jumeirah, the Porto Dubai manmade island and the Tiara United Towers on Sheikh Zayed Road.
