Prices of plane tickets have increased as more travellers book their holidays in light of the UAE’s recent announcement of the Eid Al Adha break.

Average airfare to Egypt, one of the top destinations for UAE travellers this summer, stood at $551 – jumping by 41 percent compared to the same period last year. Average airfare to India more than doubled to $379.

“With summer approaching, travelers began planning and booking their holidays, and we are witnessing an increase in bookings and demand for flights to and from the UAE,” Mamound Hmedan, chief commercial officer of Indian travel company Wego, told Arabian Business.

Jordan saw an increase of 45 percent with an average airfare of $689, while the flight to Turkey stood at $306 jumping by 36 percent. Ticket prices to Morocco rose 65 percent to $788, while those to Thailand was up 191 percent at $1,900. Airfare to Lebanon also increased by 36 percent to $575.

According to data from Wego, flight and hotel searches from the UAE in June reached around 3 million, an increase of 77 percent over the same period last year.

The increase in airfares however are not stopping UAE travellers from booking, the Wego executive said, as they continue to see an increase in demand with people tending to book longer stays.

Earlier this week, global travel marketplace Skycanner released data on top destinations for travellers from the UAE and Saudi Arabia during summer – including cities such as Cairo, Istanbul, and London.

Its data revealed, Saudi bookings in May for travel this July and August have increased by 325 percent compared to bookings done in April. In the UAE, bookings were up by 156 percent in the same period.
