Travellers heading to or from Hong Kong face severe disruptions as authorities have cancelled all departing flights for the remainder of Monday.
Emirates airline has confirmed it has cancelled flights EK 384/385 Bangkok-Hong Kong-Bangkok as anti-government protesters disrupt Hong Kong’s arrivals halls for the fourth day.
The airline said in a statement: “Due to protests in Hong Kong International Airport on 12 August and subsequent direction from Hong Kong Airport Authorities to halt flights, Emirates flights EK384/ EK385 between Bangkok and Hong Kong on 12 August has been cancelled. Flights EK 386, EK 381 and EK 383 might also experience delays as a result of the protests.
“All other flights to/from Hong Kong remain unaffected as of now, however passengers are advised to regularly check www.emirates.com for the latest flight schedules.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will continue to monitor the situation closely and update our customers if additional flights are affected.”
Hong Kong’s Airport authority said it was cancelling all flights that were not yet checked in and has advised people not to travel to the airport. Incoming flights that have not yet departed are also reported to be cancelled.
All passengers have been advised to leave the terminal buildings as quickly as possible and affected passengers were advised to contact their airlines to check flight status.
Etihad Airways flight EY833 departing Hong Kong at 7.45pm for Abu Dhabi has also been cancelled.
All codeshare flights operated in partnership with Etihad Airways and due to depart Hong Kong later today are also cancelled.
Travellers should check their flight status on Hong Kong International Airport website and get in touch with their airlines to confirm travel arrangements.
Flights already in the air and due to land at Hong Kong International Airport will be given permission to do so.
In a statement to ARN News, Etihad Airways said: “Flight EY833 from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Abu Dhabi International (AUH) has been significantly delayed”.
The airline apologised for the “inconvenience caused by this extended delay” and urged passengers to check with their booking office.
