UAE’s Twenty 14 says iconic London hotel to open in Q3

Revamp of Great Scotland Yard Hotel completed, says company exec at Abu-Dhabi-based Twenty 14 Holding

The Great Scotland Yard Hotel, Abu-Dhabi-based Twenty 14 Holding’s hospitality project in London, is scheduled to be opened in the third quarter of this year, a top company executive has said.

“The refurbishing of the property is over and the hotel (Great Scotland Yard) is expected to be opened in the third quarter (of this year),” Adeeb Ahmed, managing director of Twenty 14 Holdings, told Arabian Business.

Originally Scotland Yard Police Station headquarters, the 3-5 Great Scotland Yard property was acquired by Twenty 14 Holdings from the British developer Galliard Homes for £110 million in July 2015.

After acquiring the property, located in the St James’s district of Westminster, London, the Lulu Group transformed it into a 92,000 sq ft high-end, 5-star luxury hotel.

Twenty 14 Holdings has also acquired hotel properties in Scotland, Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, The Caledonian, and in mainland Europe, Intercity Hotel Zurich Airport.

Adeeb said the group is also expected to finalise more projects in the hospitality sector by the third quarter of this year.

“We are currently assessing projects in various regions and conversations at multiple levels are being held. We expect to finalise more projects in this (hospitality) sector towards the third quarter of 2019,” he said.

The new projects on the drawing board will also include hotel projects in the GCC market. “We have plans to add more projects in the GCC market to our existing hospitality projects in this region,” said Adeeb, who also takes care of LuLu group’s financial and branded retail businesses.

“We already have several hotel projects in the pipeline which are under various stages of development. We have set a target of investing $1 billion by 2020 and we are moving towards achieving this.”

He said Twenty 14 Holdings has already invested over $650 million in the hospitality sector, with new hotel projects coming up in Abu Dhabi and several locations in India.

The LuLu Group arm has opened its first hotel in India – Port Muziris – in Kochi last month. The hotel is managed by Marriott International’s Tribute Portfolio.

In the GCC market, Twenty 14 Holdings own The Steigenberger Hotel in Dubai and the Sheraton Oman in Muscat.
