Flights between Dubai and Bali have not been affected by a volcanic eruption on the Indonesian island on Friday night, despite reports that some Australian flights had been impacted, an Emirates spokesperson confirmed on Saturday.
Volcanic ash and lava began erupting out of Mount Agung on Friday night, lasting for around four and half minutes.
Some flights in and out of Ngurah Rai international airport, located around 70 kilometres from the volcano, were cancelled overnight, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Saturday, adding that some Jetstar aircraft had been forced to turn back and Virgin Australia had delayed some flights.
However, an Emirates spokesperson confirmed that flights to and from Bali were continuing and had not been cancelled.
“There have been no disruptions to our Bali flights. There was a slight delay this morning but only by 30 minutes. The ash cloud has moved away from the airport,” the Dubai-based carrier said in a statement to Arabian Business on Saturday.
While tourists have been warned to stay four kilometres away from top of the mountain, no evacuation to nearby villages was necessary, a spokesman for Bali’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency was quoted as saying in the Herald report.
