Air India is set to increase flights to Dubai to fill the gap left by Jet Airways’ suspension of operations.
According to media reports in India, the state-run airline will add two flights daily on its Delhi-Dubai and Mumbai-Dubai routes from next month.
India-Dubai is considered one of the most lucrative sectors as demand is always high on the route due to high business as well as leisure travel.
Several local and domestic carriers connect 20 Indian cities with Dubai.
Bookings of all the new flights have started, reports said.
India’s civil aviation ministry earlier this week decided to allot about 5,700 weekly seats to the airline out of grounded Jet Airways’ unused quota on the lucrative India-Dubai route.
India’s grounded Jet Airways said on Tuesday that its chief executive and its finance chief have quit, adding to gloom over the ailing carrier.
The heavily indebted airline, which last month suspended all operations, said that chief executive Vinay Dube resigned due to “personal reasons”.
Jet, in which Etihad Airways holds a 24 percent stake, and has debts of more than $1 billion, has been in a tailspin for months, defaulting on loans and failing to pay many staff and aircraft leases.
