World’s best low-cost airlines 2024 revealed: Flydubai tops Middle East ranking

The world’s best low-cost airlines have been rated and ranked in a highly influential award ceremony organised by AirlineRatings.com.

Malaysia-based carrier AirAsia Group was named the world’s best low-cost airline.

UAE-based flydubai was named the best low-cost carrier in the Middle East.

AirlineRatings.com editors defined categorisation and used 12 criteria including passenger reviews from several sources, fleet age, product offering and safety and incident rating to arrive at its Top 25 list.

AirlineRatings.com identified regional winners for its low-cost airline’s Top 25. Awards went to:

  • Americas: Southwest
  • Middle East: flydubai
  • Asia: AirAsia Group
  • Australia/Pacific: Jetstar Group
  • Europe: easyJet  

AirAsia was ranked as the best low-cost carrier in the world. Launched in 2002 by Tony Fernandes with just two planes Air Asia has had spectacular growth over the past two decades years to become a dominant force in the Asian region.

The awards also named Qatar Airways as its Airline of the Year for 2024.

Qatar Airways picked up Best Business Class for the fifth year running and Best Catering and Air New Zealand won Best Economy Class.

Singapore Airlines won Best First Class, while Virgin Australia won Best Cabin Crew.

Best-In-Flight Entertainment and Best Premium Economy went to Emirates, while Qantas picked up Best Lounges.

Etihad Airways picked up Best Environmental Airline for the third year running.
