Motorists in Ras Al Khaimah, caught violating traffic rules by jumping a red light, will face an AED1,000 fine, followed by 12 black traffic points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
The announcement was made by the Ras Al Khaimah Traffic and Patrols department, as part of their awareness efforts on the extreme dangers of crossing a red light.
The force also referred to Law No. 5 of 2020, which orders vehicle impoundment in case a motorist jumps a red light.
The authority had launched a traffic awareness campaign this year, ‘Jumping the red light is extremely dangerous’, as part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategy for the traffic sector.
The General Command of Ras Al Khaimah Police, represented by the Traffic and Patrols Department – Traffic Awareness and Media Branch, launched the campaign in cooperation with the Media and Public Relations Department, to focus on road safety as well.
Jumping the red light is an irresponsible act by a reckless and uncaring driver, Brig. Ahmed Saeed Al Naqbi, Head of the Traffic Awareness Team at the Federal Traffic Council – Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department said.
