The Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer of two of the world’s most ambitious renewable projects – the Red Sea and Amaala destinations – announced the purchase of a fleet of electric buses.
The purchase would mark the first phase of the company’s adoption of a smart and sustainable mobility network in the Red Sea destination.
RSG has also become the first owner of a fleet of carbon-neutral smart buses in the kingdom, following its agreements with leading companies in smart electric mobility in the world.
John Pagano, CEO of RSG, said that the company has taken upon itself the task of setting new standards for renewable development in the country.
The implementation of its ambitious plans with carbon-neutral operations represents a major part of achieving these goals, he said.
“RSG is fortunate to work with global manufacturers and operators that share their ambitious vision to reshape the concept of renewable tourism by leading the regional and global transformation in the sustainable transport sector with energy efficiency,” Pagano said.
The company said the destination development plans were proceeding as per schedule set to welcome its first visitors in 2023, when the first group of hotels is expected to be opened.
The company said more than 50 percent of the first phase has been completed, with many of its major assets already operating at full operational capacity, including the management hotel for the company’s four-star staff, administrative offices in the destination, and the largest landscaping nursery in the Middle East.
Once completed, the Red Sea destination will include 50 resorts, 8,000 hotel rooms, and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland locations.
The destination will also include an international airport, a luxury marina, a golf course, and leisure and retail facilities.
Deputy Governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) Saud Al-Askar said the organization was pleased to provide strategic support to RSG in leading the transition phase for sustainable transport in the country.
“This will encourage other companies two follow suit in this regard,” he said.
